When it comes to gender scans, my personal experience has absolutely influenced the way I approach this element of my scanning. I thoroughly understand why people like to find out the gender of their baby. Personally, I did not want to know the gender of my babies. However, only the gender of one of my four babies remained a surprise. It was not the experience I had hoped for. Essentially, all of pregnancy and childbirth is somewhat out of one’s control. The only element that is controllable is if you know the gender of your baby and how you find it out. It is a significant way of giving women a feeling of some certainty.

When is the best time to get a Pregnancy Gender Scan?
A baby’s gender is determined at conception. However, male and female genital structures have very similar appearances in the early stages. Towards the end of the first trimester, all the babies look like boys for the most part… they all have “a bit that sticks out”. The only variation in gender at this point is a subtle difference in the direction the “bit” sticks out. An obstetric trained sonographer might be able to determine a baby’s gender at the Nuchal Translucency Scan at the 12-14 week mark, however, it is easy to get wrong due to the same factors that we come up against in 3D scanning, namely fetal position and maternal body habitus. Hence why it is best to wait just that little bit longer to have a gender scan…the odds of accuracy are better!
I recommend booking a gender scan from the 15 week mark for best results.
What to expect during your Pregnancy Gender Scan
If you are coming to find out the gender of your baby and you are less than 22 weeks gestation, have a comfortably full bladder. Not so full that you are uncomfortable. After 22 weeks, no preparation is required.

Diagnostic and entertainment ultrasound are considered safe if performed by a fully qualified medical sonographer.
How much does a Pregnancy Gender Scan cost?
Your images can be accessed at the conclusion of the scan via a link we send you. We all like a good photo for the fridge too!! If you would like printed images, this can be done for you with 6 images/A4 at a cost of $5 a sheet.
The cost for a gender scan is $100 for a 10 minute session. All 2D images are included for download. No 3D imaging during this scan. Book in from 15 weeks gestation.
